Anil Kumble took all 10 wickets in an innings of the Test match against Pakistan in the year 1999.
India’s great leg-spinner Anil Kumble has recalled the tales of taking 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match played against Pakistan (India vs Pakistan) at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in 1999. Kumble is the second bowler to achieve this milestone in history. Before him, Jim Laker of England achieved this feat.
Kumble, speaking on Instagram with former Zimbabwean fast bowler Pomelele Manbagawa, said, “For me it is as if it happened yesterday.” This is very special for me. This is the series that India and Pakistan were playing after a long time. It was a two-match Test series. The first was played in Chennai which we lost by 12 runs. While going to Kotla, we knew we had to win. ”
Kumble described the situation on the fourth day of the match when he made history. “I know that I am more effective when the wicket is repeated or there is an unlimited bounce. It doesn’t matter much if there isn’t too much spin because I can take advantage of unlimited bounce. “
Kumble told how his fellow fast bowler Javagal Srinath had assured him not to end the match with nine wickets and hence he was bowling outside the wicket.
He said, “Pakistan had got a good start by lunchtime. I knew it was a wicket. I changed ends after lunch. Then I got a wicket, got another and then went on to meet.
The former captain said, “I went bowling from lunch to tea, but I was tired. I knew I had a chance to improve my performance because I was 6 on 6. “
He said, “I got seven, eight, nine wickets after tea time. I finished my over and Srinath came. Perhaps he would not have bowled in a difficult situation. “
The former coach of the Indian team said, “They had to forget everything and bowl outside, but I didn’t say anything to them. I thought Vakyam gives Akram a run. “
He said, “I thought I would have to take one over because it is not good to ask for another over. To my luck it was probably written that it was special to be behind a match in the series against Pakistan, then it was all special. “
